Shahid Kapoor is on cloud nine – Padmaavat

CineEye, January 25, 2018September 26, 2019

Shahid Kapoor is currently on cloud nine especially with his movie Padmaavat finally hitting the theatres today. The movie also stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh in pivotal roles and has been helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

In the movie, Shahid essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh. Following the ‘no promotional’ strategy, Padmaavat has been under major trouble following several controversies. Replying to this, Shahid said, “I don’t think we need to promote this film any more. This film should speak for itself. I think we have done everything we need to do. Now it’s time for people to decide what they feel.”

“We have not really promoted this film. It was the toughest thing. I thought it will be a relaxing thing. Generally the extreme nervousness of a film, before its release, passes by on a promotional spree. But this time, it was a long wait,” he added.

Talking about his character, Shahid added that he is very happy with the response his performance has been getting especially given that it was not the most author-backed role. “Honestly, it’s not the most author-backed role in the film. So taking up such a role and getting appreciations for that, is an amazing moment,” he emphasized.

When probed further as to why he thinks his character is not the most author-backed role, Shahid concluded, “I don’t want to get into the details of it. But yes, it was the least known of the three characters (played by Deepika, Ranveer and Shahid). On the basis of my understanding, it was tough to portray this kind of character.”
