Prashant Ingole, Jonita Gandhi, Shreyas Puranik create a song on women’s empowerment! CineEye, March 10, 2018September 26, 2019 Prashant Ingole’s film, ‘Budh’, will be doing the rounds at international film festivals, including Cannes. Known for his lyrics in films like ‘Bajirao Mastaani’ and ‘Mary Kom’, Prashant has donned the director and producers hat for this film. He also got together the team of Shreyas Puranik, the composer, and Jonita, the singer for a song. The song is titled Haq Hai. Prashant wrote the lyrics for this song as well. The song was released on Valentines day and deals with women empowerment. When asked about the song, Prashant says “This track is a discussion between the mind and a heart . There is always a contradiction between both. And when you get to the hook-line, you realise that’s what its talking about. The mind is communicating with the heart and that is the USP of this song.” Composer Shreyas Puranik adds on, “This song is unique and has a message about female empowerment, and that is something I am proud to be associated with. Composing for the short film was a great experience. It is a very emotional movie and talks about issues that women go through- there are three different stories going on. Prashant had already written the lyrics, which was so emotional that in 15 minutes we cracked the song. It was right from the heart.” The song also reveals a new facet to Jonita’s voice. She says, “I always enjoy singing in my lower register. I feel that in Bollywood especially, people don’t use female lower registers enough. They like doing the whole high thing, which is nice, but not in every context.” Shreyas had earlier composed ‘Gajanana’ from the film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and also assistant music director of the film ‘Padmavat’. He also composed for the Marathi film, ‘Photocopy’. Meanwhile Jonita, a Canadian singer, has multiple hits to her credit including, ‘Breakup Song’ (‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil), ‘Lagdi Hai Thaai’ (‘Simran’), ‘Chandralekha’ (‘A Gentleman’), ‘Affoo Khudaya’ (‘F.U. Friendship Unlimited’, a Marathi Film), ‘Ye Jawaani Teri’ (‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’) and ‘Gilehriyaan’ (‘Dangal’). Music
