“Simmba” Review: An entertaining film with many “whistle” worthy moments! Chirag Shah, December 28, 2018September 26, 2019 The first thing that stands out in this film is Ranveer Singhs overacting. But then as the film continues, you realize that this type of acting works for this type of film. The energy, the enthusiasm and the wackiness that Ranveer Singh brings to his character takes this film to the next level. He lights up the screen! It’s not often that a review starts with discussing the performances, but this review is an exception because it seems as if Ranveer Singh was really enjoying himself during the making of this movie! It can be seen throughout the film that he was having a ball of a time! If things go as planned, him and this film will definately pass on this energy to the audience as well! Lets get one thing straight. Nobody expects “cinema” from this type of movie, so it can’t be reviewed as such. This is a film meant to be seen with popcorn and a cup of your favorite drink! At times you munch, at times you sip, at times you whistle at the one liners, and at times you laugh. This is that type of film. A full-on pot-boiler. No doubt, there is nothing new in the story line. The screenplay is just “ok”, but the film is fast paced and doesn’t waste any time from the first frame. Yes, the film is lengthy, but it is entertaining enough that the audience may not notice the length. Revenge films have a wonderful place in the heart of the Indian audiences. They love revenge. Most commercial films, if it’s not a love story, delves into the theme of vengeance. It just feels so great to see the bad guys finally getting what they deserve. This film, to a certain extent, succeeds at creating that feeling. Ranveer Singhs AKA Simmbas character transformation is interesting. Infact he (his character) is louder and wackier in the first half of the film, but then transforms into a more serious character in the second. But of course, his wackiness still appears here and there. He is not your usual “robin hood” type of cop so that was a nice departure. From a technical standpoint, the editing is a plus point. The cinematography is nice as well. The songs are skippable and don’t really leave an impression. Only the original “Singham” song which comes a couple times stands out. Back to the acting, after Ranveer Singh, Ashutosh Rana stands out. It’s great to see him in a role like this! Sonu Sood is competent. Sara Ali Khan’s character is just the usual love interest. She doesn’t have much to do, but she is beautiful! The rest lead ample support. When it comes to a Rohit Shetty film, it’s either a hit or a miss. In this case, I would predict that it will be a huge hit. When it comes to Karan Johar as a producer, it’s nice to see him producing different genre of films. The masses will really enjoy this film. And not to mention, there are a few guest appearances as well. Overall, “Simmba” is a well packaged film. It truly entertains, and if that’s all you are looking for then go for it! Now let me end this review with Ranveer Singh once again: This is his film and he holds it together! Rating: 4 stars Movie Reviews
