CineEye, February 27, 2019September 26, 2019

PVR Cinemas Globus Mall, Bandra (W) (erstwhile SPI Le Reve) to become a premium ‘Destination Cinema’

MUMBAI, Feb 26th

With its recent acquisition of  SPI Cinemas, PVR Cinemas  will now share their creative programming & marketing with SPI Le Reve in Bandra with a promise to make it a premium ‘Destination Cinema’ in a new initiative called PVR SCREENING ROOM.

PVR Cinemas, Globus Mall will regularly host an evening with a celebrated film-maker and showcase a film which inspires them. The screening will be followed by an in-depth conversation on what makes it a ‘special film’.  For an audience that likes to watch world cinema and critique it, it’s a masterclass with India’s best. Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Sriram Raghavan, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra are some the names already confirmed for the ‘PVR SCREENING ROOM’ initiative.

Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, PVR Pictures and Chief Strategy Officer PVR Ltd says, “We wanted to do something unique & cinema-centric considering the Bandra property has a very unique mix of patrons. This is an audience that travels the world and will enjoy a nuanced evening with a celebrated filmmaker.”

He adds, “We have asked these acclaimed auteurs to select a film that is special for them. It could be a film that inspired them or a film from thier own stable. Then, we will screen the film for the audience and follow it up with an engaging discussion. The forum will be open for questions from the audience as well. It’s a by-invite with limited tickets to the show to ensure only real cinephiles come in for the experience.”

The first auteur who will showcase his favourite Tamil film ‘Subramaniapuram’ is Anurag Kashyap on February 28th 2019. Subramaniapuram is a 2008 Tamil blockbuster that has a cult status and was also the directorial debut of M Sasikumar.  It was one of the three Tamil films which inspired ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur”.

“PVR will like to celebrate iconic work in India & globally  as well as acknowledge their insights & tremendous contribution to our film industry,” says Gianchandani.

Kashyap will be followed by Sriram Raghvan, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Zoya Akhtar in the subsequent months.
