Akshay Kumar congratulates PM Narendra Modi for historic win in Lok Sabha elections 2019

Akshay Kumar, who received a constant support from the BJP recently when he was targeted for being a Canadian citizen, congratulated PM Narendra Modi for the historic win of his party, the Bhartiya Janata Party, in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

As the counting trends showed BJP securing a comfortable majority, Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to extend his wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

He wrote, “Heartiest congratulations Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji on the historic win. All your efforts to advance the nation and put it on the global map have been acknowledged. Wishing you an even more successful second term.”

Out of 542 Lok Sabha seats, which went to poll, BJP led NDA has a clear majority with 348 seats.

Akshay kumar recently made headlines for not casting his vote during 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He received a lot of flak on social media for not being an Indian citizen. Akshay Kumar holds a Canadian passport.

Reacting to the citizenship row, Akshay Kumar had tweeted, “I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India.”

He added, “While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal and non-political, and of no consequence to others. Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.”

The actor received huge support from friends from the film fraternity and BJP leaders. Kiren Rijiju, in Akshay’s support tweeted, “Dear @akshaykumar ji, no one can question your patriotism. Your motivation to our Armed Forces personnel and the way you generated funds for our martyrs through #BharatKeVeer programme will remain an example for every patriotic Indian.”

Akshay’s Baby co-star Anupam Kher also extended his support during the controversy. He wrote, “Dearest @AnupamPKher ji, duly noted, also thank you for this and thank you for being more of a friend than a colleague. Hugs.”

Twinkle Khanna, who doesn’t shy away from taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also congratulated BJP on its “Sweeping victory.”

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP on their sweeping victory. Democracy must always be celebrated. Here’s to our India that I hope becomes synonymous with inclusivity, harmony and development #Election2019Results,” she tweeted.

In April, Akshay Kumar received criticism from many for his “non-political interview” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
