Emraan Hashmi Plays The ‘Fearless’ Ram Manohar Lohia In the film: Ae Watan Mere Watan CineEye, March 11, 2024 In a new poster for Ae Watan Mere Watan, released on Monday, the makers revealed Emraan Hashmi’s first look from the patriotic film. Emraan, sporting black-rimmed glasses, a khadi jacket, and a Nehru cap, appeared almost unrecognizable. Fans were excited to see this new avatar of the actor in the film. It’s expected that Emraan will portray Ram Manohar Lohia in the movie. In the poster, Emraan’s character is shown as determined in his fight against British rule in India, with clenched fists suggesting his involvement in an anti-British protest. That apart, Emraan shared a picture of Ram Manohar Lohia on his Instagram Stories, confirming his role as the latter in the film. Ram Manohar Lohia is renowned for his work with Congress Radio, which broadcasted covertly from several locations in Bombay until the early 1940s. Set against the backdrop of 1942’s Quit India Movement, the movie is inspired by real events and tells the story of unsung heroes during a pivotal chapter of India’s freedom struggle. Sara Ali Khan portrays Usha, whose underground radio system becomes an important beacon of the Movement. The trailer transports us to the pre-independence era, introducing us to 22-year-old Usha, a college girl in Bombay, who endeavours to help India achieve its freedom and forms an underground radio station that becomes the fuel that fires the Quit India Movement. Through Usha’s journey, the trailer highlights the courage, sacrifices, and resourcefulness of the youth of the nation during India’s fight for freedom.
