What has been your real calling and how has been the journey so far ? Thank you so much. I absolutely enjoy dancing, pageantry or modelling and I guess all of these are my true callings since they’ve helped me to find my purpose, which is to be the best version of myself each day. My journey so far has been absolutely extraordinary and splendid but there is still so much to do and explore. Q. As a Bharatnatyam dancer, you have represented India twice at International dance festivals held in Turkey and China. How enriching has been your experience. Do you see yourself continuing the art form? The experience to perform Bharatnatyam at the international dance festivals and represent India was phenomenal. I got to learn about various cultures, traditions, people. The memory which I cherish the most is performing at the “Great Wall of China” Bharatnatyam as a classical dance form has given me lots of teachings, right from understanding of India’s rich and diverse culture to the value of discipline and persistence. Today I can proudly say that I am a modern Indian woman at the same time my roots are attached to my Indian tradition, therefore it has helped me immensely to strike a beautiful balance of tradition and modernity in my life Q. You have received State Youth award for your contribution in sports and dance, and won many medals in sports. You could have continued in sports, but, you opted for dance and modeling. Have you ever planned your life ? or you take life as it comes? What sport has taught you ? Sometimes we plan about things and sometimes, we just have to take the opportunity if it’s helping us grow in life. Sports has certainly shaped me as a person. Be it athletics or my basketball journey, It has helped me understand the fundamentals of life! It has taught me so many things including leadership skills, being adaptable, focus, team work, time management etc. Sports has a special place in my heart and will always try and take out time to play. Q. You are the first woman to be appointed as the Brand Ambassador of NSS (National Service Scheme). How do you feel about the same? In India, the idea of involving students in the task of nation building dates back to the times of Mahtma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and V.K.R.V. Rao. This year we are celebrating 50 years of National Service Scheme “Not me but You” is not only NSS motto but something that has truly touched and inspired me. We have more than 3 million NSS volunteers working for various causes. We have contributed immensely in the nation building activities.. right from blood donation camps, adoption of villages, cleanliness campaigns, eradication of illiteracy campaigns, health camps etc but there is still a long way to go. It is an honour and privilege for me to be the 1st Brand ambassador of such a historic organisation. I take full responsibility of my job and hope to create a positive change in the society. Q. What obstacles/challenges did you face during your journey? Can you narrate any incident? How did you overcome them and What kept You inspired? I feel the most challenging times bring us the most empowering lessons. Honestly I don’t look at them negatively, if your focus is in right direction all the challenges and obstacles fade away. I am also very grateful to my mom, family and friends who are very encouraging and supportive. Q. You are quite active in social work and volunteer for various causes. Any specific reason for the same? How important it is to be socially responsible? Mahatma Ghandhi had rightly quoted “Be the change that you wish to see in the World” I feel most of us are privileged in so many ways… and it’s our responsibility to ensure that people from all the sectors are at least having a dignified life and basic resources. India is a developing country and we have so much to offer to the world but today we are facing so many issues like, population, women’s safety, environmental, illiteracy, child abuse etc. In coming years india will be having highest amount of youth, so why not to channelise our energies to contribute positively toward the nation and society. What is one thing life has taught you ? who is your inspiration ? The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters. That’s what life has taught me! Many people, ideas, things inspire me. If I have to pick one I will say it’s my mother. but I also believe that inspiration can come from any source. Q. How is Naveli in person ?
