Satyameva Jayate Review: A Masala Entertainer!

Kalpana, August 16, 2018September 26, 2019

An individual’s fight against corruption is the theme of John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee’s “Satyameva Jayate”. There was a time, in the 70s and 80s, when Bollywood cinema embraced this plot with with enthusiasm. Satyameva Jayate brings the plot back.

A brutal killer is roaming about Mumbai, setting fire to corrupt cops, and beating up the gruesome numbers. There is plenty of violence, twists and turns. There is lots of talk on patriotism, national flag, contry and citizens, which is apt for a film which is released on 15th of August and is successful in its intentions of arousing the feeling of pride amongst the audience.

Coming back to the film, lots of human bodies get torched. In between, there is also there Muharram sequence to token Muslim acknowledgment and a lascivious gaze is cast at Nora Fatehi in an item number as she dances to ‘Dilbar dilbar’ remix. the song is good and shot well.

Veer (John Abraham) is a serial killer who also is active in social activities. Besides his dark activities, you see Veer feverishly working on a canvas in his swanky apartment and then getting his hands dirty as a volunteer picking trash off a Mumbai beach. Here he meets Shikha (Aisha Sharma), who looks pretty in the film and is very patriotic in nature. She gives a politician an earful about the importance of the national flag. She says some other stuff too. Sharma’s performance is decent.

The plot of revenge against system has a predictable ending where, the vigilant dies and here also, its the same.

John Abraham as Veer is impressive in action sequences. He has mastered this genre over a period of time and is quite effective. Manoj Bajpayee is superb in his role. He is one who one can rely on in any plot, theme. His act as a cop is what makes the film wachable.

If You enjoy a hard core commercial cinema and root for action packed film with lots of blood, then you will not be disappointed. The film has enough masala.

Star: 3/5
