“Luka Chuppi” review: A fun family entertainer! Chirag Shah, March 2, 2019September 26, 2019 With “Luka Chuppi” we once again delve into small town India, a favourite of filmmakers these days. This film delves into the journey of two TV reporters, Guddu and Rashmi. They fall in love, but Rashmi is not yet ready for marriage. Since Rashmi needs to “know him better”, they go for a live in relationship. But since this concept is largely frowned upon, they pretend to be married. Like all stories, there are various obstacles that they face, including a gossipy neighbor and various other “flag bearers” of morality who cause much irritation to both Guddu and Rashmi. Of course, both these characters also have a family that they need to hide things from. Unfortunately there plan doesn’t work out as intended, and things go haywire. The film starts off without wasting much time. We go straight into the point. Things move quickly. The characters are quirky, and memorable. The first half sets things up. It’s a breezy, smooth ride. The intermission point furthers our curiosity. Thankfully the second half lives up to expectations! Luka Chuppi’spost-interval is about how Guddu and Rashmi try to actually tie the knot after their secret is exposed. So does it happen? Well, you would have to watch the film to find out. Lets just say, there are many rib tickling, fun, and entertaining moments throughout the movie. There is truly something magical about small town India. A certain innocence. It is a perfect setting for such a concept as well. Plus, there is a message: One should be free, while embracing the constantly changing norms, ideas and ways of life. Free will is important! The screenplay is fluid, and wonderfully captures the the characters of Mathura. The story itself is fresh, and the screenplay does justice to it. From a technical front, the cinematography is ok. It’s competent. The editing is crisp. The production design gives the small town feel. Special mention to the music, which is both fresh and wacky. It blends with this kind of movie. Now to the performances! The chemistry between the lead pair is cute. Karthik Aryan improves with every film, and in this film it doesn’t feel like he is acting. It’s natural. Same goes with Kriti Sanon, who has a very “feel good” and positive vibe to her. Not to mention, her smile is dazzling! The rest of the cast add to the madness, especially Pankaj Tripathi. Overall, “Luka Chuppi” is a fun family entertainer! It doesn’t preach, but there is meaning to this film. Rating: 3 Stars. Movie Reviews
