Prateik Babbar on Imran Khan making his Bollywood Comeback

CineEye, September 11, 2023

“We all miss him. I had given up on him. But we spoke on the phone a week ago, and I think something is cooking,” Prateik Babbar said.

There’s a significant buzz surrounding Imran Khan’s potential comeback in Bollywood. Recent hints dropped by Imran Khan himself suggest that he might be gearing up for a major return to the silver screen. Recently, Prateik Babbar alluded to the possibility of Imran Khan embarking on a new project, indicating that something exciting may be in the works. In the 2008 film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, both Prateik Babbar and Imran Khan made their Bollywood debuts. While Prateik played a supporting role in the film, Imran took on the lead character. Over the years, Prateik has been involved in various projects, whereas Imran hasn’t graced the big screen since his 2015 film Katti Batti.

During a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Prateik Babbar was asked about Imran Khan’s potential comeback. He said, “Yeah, of course, we spoke on the phone. It was good to hear his voice. Kuch toh pakk raha hai (Something is cooking). We all miss him. I had given up on him. But we spoke on the phone a week ago, and I think something is cooking.” Prateik also had a special message for his former co-star. He stated, “The country wants to see you back on the big screen, but the ball is in your court.”

Imran Khan himself hinted at his comeback a few days ago through social media. On Instagram, the actor posted a screenshot from threads where he wrote, “To whom it may concern; I hear you. And I’m working on it. Thank you for being so patient with me.” Following up on the thread, a fan replied, saying they wanted Luck 2.

The buzz around his comeback surfaced on the internet last month when he commented on Zeenat Aman’s post. The user named Aditi wrote, “Zeenat ji ne bhi comeback karlia, patani mera Imran Khan kab karega.” The actor responded by saying, “Chalo Aditi, let’s leave this to the internet… 1M likes, and I’ll make it happen (shake hands emoji).”

Imran Khan went on to star in films such as I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly, and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan after Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. His following films, however, such as Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara directed by Milan Luthria, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein directed by Punit Malhotra, and Katti Batti directed by Nikkhil Advani, reportedly did not perform well commercially.
